When the players start playing 5 card poker each player has to place a small fee in the pot. This fee is called the ‘ante’. After that the dealer deals out five cards to each player. The cards are dealt face down. Following this a round of betting takes place. The betting starts with the player sitting on the left side of the dealer and continues clockwise. During this time the players have the option to place a bet, fold or pass. A player can pass as long as no other player before him has started betting. If other players have already started betting the players has the option either to fold or place a bet.

After this first round of betting the players can give up all of their cards or few of them and can draw replacement cards so as to improve their hands. The dealer deals out the cards face down. Like before the process starts with the player on the left and continues clockwise. The second round of betting is just like the first round. At the end of this round the player who had the best hands wins and is there is only one player left then that player automatically wins. However if there are only two players at the end and both of them have the similar hands then the hand made of the highest card wins the game.

Though this game is simple to learn but it requires a lot of practice and patience to master the game.
